Bernard wins Exxon Supreme GT Series race

MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) _ Eric Bernard of France and David Brabham of England drove the Ford Panoz GTR1 to victory Saturday in the Exxon Supreme GT Series at Laguna Seca Raceway.
The Panoz won the 1-hour, 45-minute event by more than one lap over the GT-1 Lotus of Fabian Giroix of France and Jean-Denis Deletraz of Switzerland. Franz Konrad of Germany and Nick Ham of Evergreen, Colo., finished third overall and first in GTS-2 class while Marc Duez of Belguim and Dieter Quester of Austria took the GTS-3 class by finishing eighth overall.
The race was the final event of the 11-race season. Andy Pilgrim took the GTS-1 title, while Larry Schumacher got the GTS-2 championship and Bill Auberlen won the GTS-3 class.
Also Saturday, Andrea Montermini of Italy took the pole for Sunday's Exxon World SportsCar Championship race, turning a lap at 104.21 mph in his MOMO Ferrari 333SP. Montermini and co-driver Antonio Hermann of Brazil will share the front row with the Lista Ferrari 333SP of Didier Theys of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Fredy Lienhard of Switzerland.
