Australian Plane Hits Turbulence

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) _ An Australian jetliner ran into heavy turbulence on a flight from Japan on Wednesday and 17 passengers were injured, authorities said.
Ansett Australia flight AN882 carrying 79 passengers was en route from Osaka to Brisbane when it struck the turbulence south of Papua New Guinea.
Sixteen Japanese and one South Korean were injured, mainly suffering abrasions and muscle strains. However, two people were hospitalized when the plane landed two hours later.
Ansett Australia public affairs officer Peter Young said the injured were in the rear of the craft. He did not release other details of the incident.
