VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ Eddie Jones scored 26 points to help the Miami Heat break a four-game road losing streak as they beat the struggling Vancouver Grizzlies 97-86 Friday night.
Anthony Mason added 16 for Miami, which won for the 11th time in 15 games overall.
Bryant Reeves, making his fourth straight start at center, had 21 for Vancouver as the Grizzlies dropped their third straight.
The game marked the 39th time in 42 outings this season that the Heat has held their opponent under 100 points. Vancouver had hit the century mark in five of its previous six outings.
After shooting only 19 percent in the opening quarter against Denver on Wednesday, the Grizzlies only improved marginally against Miami, going just 4-of-18 from the field (22 percent). Vancouver missed its first eight field goal attempts.
The Grizzlies only improved marginally in the second quarter, but their 10 first-half turnovers played a large role in Miami's 50-34 halftime advantage.
Vancouver, however, finally began to take advantage of interior size matchups, and when the Grizzlies hit their first five shots of the third period they pulled to 55-50.
The pace of the contest picked up from that point and Miami took a 70-61 lead into the fourth.
Notes: A Grizzlies spokesperson confirmed the club has formally filed a protest with the league regarding the controversial finish to Vancouver's 113-112 overtime loss Monday in Los Angeles against the Lakers. Shaquille O'Neal's basket with no time left on the clock was counted good. The Grizzlies contend the clock malfunctioned with 0.4 seconds left. ... Veteran Grant Long, who was placed on the injured list Dec. 30 with a fractured right thumb, was activated before the game. Kevin Edwards (foot) went on the IL for the Grizzlies. ... In nine meetings, the Grizzlies have never hit the century mark against Miami....
