Polynice Suspended One Game
Jan. 17, 2001
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _Utah Jazz center Olden Polynice was suspended for one game by the NBA after pleading guilty Tuesday to charges of impersonating a police officer and disorderly conduct in a traffic confrontation.
Polynice was sentenced to 18 months of probation and ordered to pay $500 in fines and get counseling. He also will perform community service at a local Boys & Girls Club, said his lawyer, Wally Bugden.
He will miss Utah's game against Minnesota on Wednesday night.
Polynice followed another motorist home on Oct. 28 because he believed the driver had cut him off in traffic. While they argued, Polynice flashed a badge that turned out to be an honorary police badge from Los Angeles.
The other driver wrote down Polynice's license-plate number as he drove away, and investigators tracked him down that evening.
``He used poor judgment and he regrets it,'' Bugden said. ``He wants to be a good role model.''
