Solar farm nearly finished for central Indiana high school

GREENTOWN, Ind. (AP) — Work is nearing completion of a 4,500-panel solar farm that will supply electricity for a central Indiana high school.
Most of the panels are installed on the former soccer fields of Eastern High School in the Howard County community of Greentown, while some have been placed on the high school's roof. The Kokomo Tribune reports crews are expected to have them all in operation within the next couple of months.
Eastern Howard School Corp. Superintendent Keith Richie says the district decided to go ahead with the $3 million project as a hedge against future increases in electricity costs. He says payments on the project over the next 20 years will be about the same amount as the high school's current annual electric bill.
