PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Four Providence College basketball players pleaded innocent Friday to assault charges stemming from an off-campus fight that left three students injured.

Donta Wade, accused of throwing the first punch, has been charged with felony assault. Llewellyn Cole, David Murray and Jamaal Camah are accused of misdemeanor simple assault.

The disturbance resulted in the cancellation Thursday night of the school's athletic banquet.

``It's an end of the year celebration, but the college has taken what has happened very seriously,'' said Providence spokesman Edward Caron. ``The college felt it was totally inappropriate, so we canceled the event.''

The school has filed disciplinary charges in the case.

The fight happened late Monday night at an off-campus apartment. Witnesses told police that the players went to a house looking for a bouncer who reportedly refused days earlier to allow one of them into a bar without identification.
