CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) _ Pete Mauch passed for three touchdowns Saturday in leading Eastern Illinois to a 42-21 victory over Southern Illinois.

The Panthers, No. 12 in the latest NCAA Div. I-AA poll, were up 21-0 and 42-7 in the Gateway Conference game.

In their season finale, the Salukis (5-6 overall, 2-4 Gateway) got 124 yards rushing and a touchdown from senior William Tolen in his last game.

Willie High had 116 yards rushing on 28 carries for Eastern Illinois (9-1, 4-1).

Mauch was 8-of-14 for 100 yards. Tom Hess caught two of his TD passes _ 22 and 27 yards _ and Mike Mangan one for 4 yards.

After Hess' two scoring catches, Chris Brown grabbed a blocked punt and scored from 8 yards out for the Panthers.

Southern Illinois' Danny Smith hit Damon Jones with a 54-yard scoring pass in the third quarter. Smith was 7-for-19 for 117 yards.

The Panthers scored three straight times in the final quarter to pull away.
