BALTIMORE (AP) _ Ben McDonald, the No. 1 pick in the June draft, has reached agreement on a contract with the Baltimore Orioles, his agent said Friday night.

McDonald has signed through the 1991 season, agent Scott Boras said during an interview on a cable television broadcast of the Baltimore-Toronto game. The Orioles scheduled a press conference for 3 p.m. Saturday to announce the signing.

McDonald, an All-American pitcher at Louisiana State, and the Orioles had been unable come to terms after the draft. In the interim, McDonald pitched briefly in the Cape Cod League, a premier amatuer league in Massachusetts.
