BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox on Monday activated catcher Scott Hatteberg from the 15-day disabled list and signed first-round draft pick Rick Asadoorian to a minor league contract.

Hatteberg went on the disabled list on May 17 to recover from surgery on his right elbow. He was on a 20-day rehabilitation assignment that ended Friday and when the Red Sox delayed restoring him to the roster, Hatteberg contemplated filing a grievance.

But the team designated catcher Lenny Webster for assignment on Monday, making room for Hatteberg.

Asadoorian, a 19-year-old outfielder from Whitinsville, hit .500 with seven homer and 41 RBIs in his senior year at Northbridge High School.

Asadoorian was the 17th overall selection in the draft. His signing bonus is worth $1,825,000, including payments for college education, according to The Boston Globe.
