LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Manndar followed Falcon Flight halfway across the country to beat him in the $300,000-added Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on the Kentucky Derby undercard Saturday at Churchill Downs.
A month ago, Manndar was favored in the El Rincon Handicap at Santa Anita, but finished fourth, 2 1/4 lengths behind Falcon Flight.
On Saturday, Manndar was 1 1/2 lengths better than Falcon Flight in the 1 1-8-mile race, and paid $12.20.
Unbridled Time pulled away to a 2 3/4-length victory in the $100,000 WHAS Stakes for 2-year-olds.
Bob and Beverly Lewis paid more than $1 million for the grandson of 1990 Derby winner Unbridled. Ridden by Pat Day, Unbridled Time is perfect in two starts.
Unbridled Time finished the five furlongs in 57 3-5, a fifth of second off the track record, impressing Day.
``Maybe this experience today in front of this crowd will play into his hands next year,'' the jockey said.
Unbridled Time paid $7.20.
A race later, the Lewis' Straight Man led all the way, holding off longshot Mula Gula to win by a head in the $150,000 Winnercom Handicap.
Jorge Chavez rode Straight Man, who paid $11.20 in the seven-horse field. Trained by Bob Baffert, Straight Man ran seven furlongs in 1:21.53.
Chavez won his second straight when Longshot Don't Be Silly wore down front-running Pricearose in mid-stretch and finished almost two lengths in front of Really Polish in the $100,000 added Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile.
Ruby Surprise scored an upset in the $150,000 added Humana Distaff when heavily favored Honest Lady got off to a slow start and spotted the leader 16 lengths. Honest Lady rallied but came up more than two lengths shy of Ruby Surprise, who paid $35.20 in the seven-furlong race.
