Shares Rise in Europe

LONDON (AP) _ Most European stocks rose slightly Wednesday in light trading. Technology shares underperformed all others.
The Dow Jones Stoxx Index of shares in European companies rose 0.45 points, or 0.1 percent, to 381.37.
The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx Index, which tracks companies in countries that joined the single currency, rose 0.63 point to 431.48. The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 Index rose 16.7 points to 5,226.2, and the Dow Jones Stoxx 50 Index rose 4.4 points to 4,920.2.
Glaxo Wellcome gained 1.8 percent on news that its diarrhea drug Lotronex hasn't been withdrawn by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. AstraZeneca gained 2.2 percent while SmithKline Beecham was up 1.6 percent.
London's FTSE-100 Share Index fell 61.8 points, or 1.0 percent, to 6,313.5. Frankfurt's Xetra DAX Index was unchanged at 7,048.96, the Paris CAC-40 Index rose 0.6 percent to 6,607.96, Milan's MIBtel Index rose 1.0 percent to 31,875 and Amsterdam's AEX Index was unchanged at 683.15.
