Garrido Has Hip Replacement Surgery
Nov. 11, 2003
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido underwent hip replacement surgery Tuesday.
Garrido, the winningest coach in Division I with 1,430 victories, opted to have his right hip replaced because of recurring lower back problems. The procedure was performed at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, Calif.
``The doctor told me that the surgery went perfectly,'' Garrido said.
Garrido expects to begin rehab immediately and said he will not miss any practice time before the start of the 2004 season.
He will remain in the hospital for a few days and then return to Austin when doctors clear him to fly.
