NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Sunderland forward Stephane Sessegnon has been charged with drunk driving after being arrested while his teammates played a League Cup match.

Police said the Benin attacking midfielder was arrested in Newcastle on Tuesday and will appear at a magistrates' court on Oct. 4.

Sessegnon joined Sunderland from Paris Saint-Germain in 2011. He scored seven goals in 38 games last season.

Sunderland won its second-round League Cup match against MK Dons 4-2 after fighting back from 2-0 down at home.
