BEIJING (AP) _ A double-decker bus fitted with sleeping berths plunged into a reservoir in southern China, killing at least 18 people, an official newspaper said Sunday.
At least 13 of the 45 people aboard the bus survived the crash into 42 feet of water in Lingdong reservoir in the Guangxi region, the Beijing Morning Post said. Eighteen bodies were recovered by Saturday, the newspaper said.
Rescuers were searching for the remaining passengers and the cause of the accident was being investigated, it said. The reservoir is 1,250 miles south of Beijing.
Buses fitted with rudimentary bunk beds instead of seats are a common, cheap and popular form of long-distance travel in China.
