FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) _ One crew member died Thursday after a crash of an Air Force special operations helicopter on a nighttime training mission.

The MH-53J Pave-Low, used to ferry troops behind enemy lines, went down about 10:05 p.m. Wednesday in a clearing in woods on the western side of Fort Bragg.

The helicopter was assigned to the 20th Special Operations Squadron, part of the 16th Special Operations Wing based at Hurlburt Field in Florida.

Staff Sgt. Kurt Upton, 25, of Niota, Ill., died of injuries from the crash about 5 a.m. Thursday at Womack Army Medical Center, said senior airman Jodi Jordan, a spokeswoman at Hurlburt.

The other crew members sustained only minor injuries.
