EXETER, R.I. (AP) — An Alabama man who was working in Rhode Island doing cleanup after the recent nor'easters has been arrested on a rape warrant out of his home state.
Rhode Island State Police say 23-year-old Allen Johnson, of Roanoke, Alabama, was arrested Monday at a job site in Exeter.
Officers first encountered Johnson on March 5 when someone called Narragansett police to complain that a branch had fallen on his car while Johnson and others were trimming a tree. The department later learned that there was a warrant for Johnson's arrest out of Randolph County, Alabama.
He had been working for Davey Tree Expert Company. A spokeswoman tells WJAR-TV the company is doing an internal review.
Johnson is being held in Rhode Island pending extradition to Alabama.
