KINSTON, N.C. (AP) — The N.C. Highway Patrol says a woman and a child have died after the car they were in was hit by a dump truck.
Patrol Sgt. Scott Hemby told media outlets that a 2002 Honda Accord was heading north on U.S. Highway 258 on Monday when a dump truck heading south crossed the center line and hit the car head on.
Hemby said a bystander tried to give the child CPR, but both the child and the woman died at the scene. The sergeant said the driver of the dump truck was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The identities of the victims haven't been released.
