ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — The search for a Vermont town's police chief is coming to a close.

The Caledonian-Record reports Senior Officer Scott Keene of the Stowe Police Department and retired Detective Sgt. Tim Page of the Vermont State Police are the finalists for St. Johnsbury's next police chief.

St. Johnsbury Town Manager Chad Whitehead says the hiring committee is checking references and conducting follow-up interviews with both candidates. Whitehead says he expects the process to be finished by the end of this week.

Page has said he wants another challenge, and he would focus on team building and professionalism within the department.

Keene was unavailable for comment.

Former Chief Clem Houde resigned in June after he faced accusations of exchanging inappropriate text messages with a female subordinate.
