CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina elementary school teacher who authorities say abused children enrolled in an overnight summer camp run from his home has been arrested.
News outlets report 29-year-old Taji Brown was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a student.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spokesman Rob Tufano says Brown recruited young sons of single mothers for his mentoring camp, called G.U.D.B.O.Y.S. — Gentlemen Understanding Destiny By Overcoming Your Statistics.
Police were notified by the parent of a 10-year-old boy who said Brown touched him, and are aware of at least two victims.
Police say no crimes occurred at Billingsville Elementary School, where Brown teaches fifth grade. He's been suspended with pay.
It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
