PITTMAN CENTER, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say a three-vehicle crash sent a woman's car into a Tennessee river, and that her body was recovered 4 miles (6 kilometers) downstream.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the body of 19-year-old Chloe Lynn McCarter was recovered after the wreck sent her vehicle into the turbulent waters of Little Pigeon River on Monday afternoon.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report says McCarter's vehicle crashed at an angle into the back of a Honda Civic, which then collided with a Subaru Forester.

The collision sent McCarter's vehicle off the left side of the road, down an embankment and into the river, which was swollen by recent rains. McCarter managed to escape the vehicle, but waters swept her away.

The drivers of the Honda Civic and the Subaru Forester were not injured.
