CHICAGO (AP) _ B.J. Windhorst had 28 points and Lynnrick Rogers hit six crucial free throws in the final 1:16 to lead Drake to a 70-62 victory over Loyola of Chicago Saturday.
Drake (2-1), led early, but the Ramblers (1-2), forced a 49-all tie when Charles Smith hit one of two free throws with 11:15 left in the game. Dan Knuckley broke the tie with a free throw with 11:48 left. ANother basket later, Knuckley and Bruce Overton had free throws to give Drake a 54-49 lead, and the Bulldogs never trailed after that.
Drake led 63-57 when Rogers was fouled as he took a three-point shot that just beat the 35 second buzzer. He hit the first two free throws, then rebounded his own miss and was fouled again with 1:13 left. He hit four more free throws in the final minute to clinch the win for the Bulldogs.
Derek Molis kept Loyola in the game with 21 points, including six three-point baskets. Joe Estes also was in double figures with 15 points, hitting three three-pointers.
Overton, who finished with 11 points, was the only other double figure scorer for Drake.
