Indians Send Santiago to Minors
May. 04, 2003
CLEVELAND (AP) _ The Cleveland Indians finally addressed their shaky bullpen by purchasing the contract of reliever Jason Boyd from Triple-A Buffalo and outrighting Jose Santiago there Sunday.
Santiago, a surprise to make Indians' opening-day roster, blew a save Saturday, and opponents were batting .368 (25-for-68) in 15 games against the right-hander.
Boyd went 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in nine outings for the Bisons. He pitched in 23 games for the San Diego Padres last season. Cleveland signed him to a minor league contract in November and invited him to spring training.
The Indians' bullpen is 1-9 and has blown four of nine save opportunities.
