SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Police say an irresponsible baby sitter is to blame for the case of a 3-year-old girl found wandering the streets of Springfield in her pajamas.

The Republican newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1bbo10v ) that the toddler has been reunited with her mother after police found her in the city's South End at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the girl somehow got away from the baby sitter. Authorities say the girl's mother went away for the night and discovered her daughter was missing when she returned home early Tuesday. The mother called police.

Officers say the girl was cold, but otherwise unharmed.

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating.
