May. 20, 2015
ADDIS, La. (AP) — A precautionary evacuation order issued after four chemical tanker cars derailed in Louisiana has been lifted.
The cars derailed Tuesday in the West Baton Rouge Parish town of Addis around 1:30 p.m., news media outlets quoted authorities as saying.
Parish officials say the evacuation was lifted early Wednesday.
The investigation in the incident continues. Officials say they must remove the rail cars so they can inspect the track.
Addis Police Chief Ricky Anderson says the rail cars belonged to various companies but were being pulled by Union Pacific.
Union Pacific spokesman Jeff DeGraff told The Associated Press the derailment happened as the train was switching to a different track on its way out of the Addis rail yard.
No injuries or leaks have been reported.
