BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a woman driving the wrong way on a busy Buffalo highway was killed when she crashed into another vehicle.

The crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. Thursday in the eastbound lanes of Route 33, one of the city's major highways leading to the downtown area.

Police say a woman in her late 20s was driving west in the eastbound lanes when she hit another car, causing both vehicles to catch fire. Members of a road crew working nearby went to help and two of them were hit by a third vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two works and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to a hospital.

The eastbound lanes were closed for more than five hours before reopening around 7:30 a.m.

Police haven't released the dead woman's name.
