WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Bush was disappointed to hear that Little League pitcher Danny Almonte is 14 years old, not 12 as previously believed, a White House spokesman said Friday.

When Bush was inducted into the league's Hall of Excellence on Sunday, he praised it for teaching children the ``values of good, clean competition'' and teamwork.

Little League did not allow players born before Aug. 1, 1988, to compete this year. Danny's family provided a birth certificate showing he was born in 1989, but Dominican officials said there were contradictions in the document and that it was not convincing.

``He was disappointed to hear that,'' White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Friday. ``Little League is Little League.''
