Joan Silber, Frances FitzGerald win Critics Circle awards

NEW YORK (AP) — Joan Silber, Frances FitzGerald and Caroline Fraser are among the winners of National Book Critics Circle awards.
Silber won in fiction on Thursday night in New York City for her novel "Improvement." FitzGerald's "The Evangelicals: The Struggle to Shape America" was honored for nonfiction and Fraser's book on Laura Ingalls Wilder, "Prairie Fires," won for biography.
Others honored included Layli Long Soldier in poetry for "Whereas" and Carina Chocano's "You Play the Girl" for criticism.
