MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) _ Middle Tennessee's Carlita Elder hit a driving jump shot with seven seconds left to give the Lady Raiders an 88-86 victory over No. 20 Mississippi Friday night.
Ole Miss had battled back from a 12-point deficit during the last four minutes of the game, tying the score on Regan Seybert's jumper with 41 seconds left.
Elder, a freshman who finished her first collegiate game with 19 points, sank her jump shot from the lane to give Middle Tennessee a victory in the season opener for both teams.
Another freshman, Jonelda Buck, finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for Middle Tennessee. Junior Jessica Batey had 17 points and 11 rebounds.
For Ole Miss, Lisa Miller scored 25 points and Katrecia Craig had 15, including two big 3-pointers late in the game as the Lady Rebels rallied.
The outcome was in stark contrast to the last meeting between the teams, when Mississippi ripped Middle Tennessee 103-56 in a tournament in Florida last December.
