Chicken Nuggets Recalled
Jun. 16, 1999
WASHINGTON (AP) _ About 480,000 pounds of chicken nuggets are being recalled by an Indiana company because they may contain an unlisted dairy product, the Agriculture Department said today.
Serenade Foods Inc. of Milford, Ind., recalled its Maple Leaf Farms brand of ``Crunchy Chicken Nuggets'' because they may contain whey, a dairy product and allergen that could trigger life-threatening reactions in people allergic to milk or milk proteins.
The recall applies to 10-ounce packages that bear ``Est. P-2375'' in the USDA mark of inspection. An identifying code number, ranging from 9001 to 9124, is embossed on the end panel above the opening strip of the product. All ``Crunchy Chicken Nuggets'' produced between Jan. 1 and May 4 were recalled. The products were distributed nationwide.
The recall was prompted by a consumer who complained to USDA officials after having an allergic reaction to the chicken nuggets.
Questions about the recall should be directed to Serenade Foods at (219) 658-4121.
