INMAN, S.C. (AP) — A suspect in a manslaughter case in New York has been arrested in South Carolina.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Bobo said in a news release that 36-year-old Jemark D. Ballenger was arrested Thursday afternoon in Inman after a search that lasted several hours.

Bobo says Broome County, New York, sheriff's deputies want Ballenger in a vehicular homicide case from last year.

Bobo says Ballenger was found after a resident had seem him earlier in the area and called 911.

Spartanburg School District 1 officials placed Chapman High, Mabry Middle, Inman Intermediate and Inman Elementary schools on lockdown shortly before noon while deputies, Inman police officers and officers with the South Carolina Probation, Parole and Pardon Services searched for Ballenger.
