BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) — A 92-year-old World War II veteran from Oklahoma has been surprised with a street renamed in his honor.
First Place between Washington (91st) and New Orleans (101st) streets, where Nipps lives, will now also be known as Oscar Nipps Jr. Boulevard.
Broken Bow Mayor Craig Thurmond says the street renaming was a way to thank Nipps for service to his country and for volunteering at the museum.
Nipps, during World War II, was a sergeant with the 1st Cavalry and fought in the Philippines.
