Montana man pleads not guilty to deliberate homicide charge

RED LODGE, Mont. (AP) — A 33-year-old Montana man has pleaded not guilty in the shooting death of another man.
KULR-TV in Billings reports that Thomas J. Schifferns, of Red Lodge, entered the plea Wednesday to deliberate homicide in Carbon County District Court.
Prosecutors accuse Schifferns of killing 63-year-old James McGregor, who had been staying with Schifferns and his common-law spouse. McGregor was reported missing on Feb. 19 and his body was found Feb. 21.
Judge Blair Jones has set bond at $1 million and Schifferns remains in custody.
Schifferns' attorney stated that his client suffers from depression.
