Apr. 05, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) _ A heavyweight bout between Andrew Golota and Marcus Rhode and a women's bout featuring Laila Ali will be televised from China on Showtime.
American Champion Entertainment on Wednesday said Showtime will be the first network to nationally televise a professional fight card from China for an American audience.
The April 22 tripleheader will be shown via same-day tape delay at 10 p.m. EDT.
Golota needs a victory in the scheduled 10-round bout to reestablish himself in the heavyweight division.
Ali, daughter of boxing great Muhammad Ali, will take on Kristina King in a four-rounder between unbeaten fighters.
The tripleheader will include a 12-round co-feature between Montell Griffin and Jose Luis Rivera for the fringe IBC's vacant light heavyweight championship.
