YONCALLA, Ore. (AP) — The head coach of the Yoncalla High School basketball team has resigned amid allegations of recruiting.

The Roseburg News-Review reports (https://is.gd/27Lj9F ) Coach Bid Van Loon must serve an eight-game suspension if he takes a coaching job at another Oregon School Activities Association school. Van Loon declined comment when contacted by the News-Review.

The OSAA fined the school $2,500 for violating its "undue influence" rule.

The athlete at the center of the violation lives between Yoncalla and Oakland in southwestern Oregon. He attended North Douglas High in Drain as a freshman and is now enrolled at Oakland High.

The OSAA says the coach delivered transfer paperwork to the student and drove him to an open gym.

Recruiting in high school is an OSAA violation.
