LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A judge Thursday slashed more than $3 billion from a $4.9 billion judgment against General Motors in a lawsuit over the explosion of a Chevrolet Malibu gas tank in a crash.
The original $4.8 billion punitive damages portion of the jury award was reduced to $1.09 billion by Superior Court Judge Ernest Williams. He let stand $107 million in compensatory damages awarded to victims of the crash.
