SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Monica Gerardo scored in the 83rd minute to help the San Jose CyberRays beat the Washington Freedom 3-2 Sunday night.

San Jose's Katia scored in stoppage time to pull the CyberRays (6-6-4) to within a goal.

The Freedom (7-5-4) took advantage of defensive miscues, scoring on a penalty kick and an own goal.

Jen Grubb scored on a penalty kick to tie it at 1 in the 38th minute and San Jose defender Kelly Lindsey misplayed a Washington pass and scored on her own net in the 56th.

The ball grazed Lindsey's head and floated over backup goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse, who was coming out for the ball.

Regular goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene, along with Brandi Chastain and Washington's Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach, played earlier in the day for the U.S. national team, which beat Norway 4-0 in an exhibition game.
