Former NBA Star Williams Won't Testify

SOMERVILLE, N.J. (AP) _ Former NBA star Jayson Williams will not testify at his manslaughter trial.
Williams told a judge Wednesday that after discussing the matter with his wife and his defense team, he had decided not to take the witness stand in his own defense.
``I am innocent, I put my trust in God and I have great confidence in this jury,'' Williams said. He spoke in response to questions from Superior Court Judge Edward M. Coleman without the jury present.
Williams announced his decision during the eighth week of testimony in the trial. He is charged in the February 2002 shooting death of a limousine driver at his Hunterdon County mansion.
The defense was to continue its case later Wednesday.
