DNR wants to open 35 miles of forest road for hunting access
Jul. 09, 2018
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources wants to open up 35 miles of existing roads in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest to motor vehicles to improve access for hunters.
The agency wants to open up the roads from Sept. 1 to the last day of the December four-day antlerless gun season, which falls on Dec. 9 this year. None of the roads connect to all-terrain vehicle trails so those vehicles wouldn't be allowed.
The roads would open in two phases — 21 miles this Sept. 1 and 14 miles in 2019.
The DNR will take public comments on the proposal online through July 23.
