INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Shaquille O'Neal's abdominal strain is getting better, but there is still no date set for his return to the Los Angeles Lakers' lineup.

O'Neal was examined Thursday by Dr. Steve Lombardo, who said that the injury ``shows some signs of improving.''

The center will continue to receive treatment and be re-evaluated by Lombardo in a week.

O'Neal missed most of training camp with the injury, missed the season-opener, then re-aggravated the strain in a game against Minnesota Nov. 19. He came back to score 26 points and grab 12 rebounds after leaving that game for treatment, but hasn't played since.
