Snow Causes 40-Car Crash in N.H.
Mar. 12, 1998
WINDHAM, N.H. (AP) _ A blinding snowstorm led to a 40-vehicle pileup that injured at least 24 people Thursday.
Most of the injuries appeared to be minor.
Ambulances had trouble getting to the injured because cars and trucks pointing in every direction blocked the icy southbound lanes of Interstate 93 for at least a quarter-mile. At least three tractor-trailers jackknifed.
``I see cars jammed under each other, cars upside down, cars stuck under the guard rail, cars under tractor-trailers,'' said Rick Wickson, a pilot for WMUR-TV.
Gary Cohen climbed out a window after his car hit a guardrail.
``I watched two trucks sideswipe my car and another car ram into the back,'' he said. ``Someone smacked into an ambulance a few cars back.''
