Trial set for man accused of ramming truck into squad car
Oct. 27, 2017
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A November trial has been scheduled for a man accused of crashing a stolen garbage truck into a police chief's squad car.
Court records say 20-year-old Logan Shoemaker has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, eluding, willful injury and other charges. His trial is set to begin Nov. 27 in Scott County District Court in Davenport.
Authorities say Shoemaker stole the truck Sept. 25 after it was hit by the pickup Shoemaker was driving while trying to evade police who were seeking him on a variety of charges. Authorities say Shoemaker rammed into the squad car of Buffalo Police Chief T.J. Behning, who was preparing to deploy stop sticks to flatten the truck's tires. Behning was hospitalized for leg injuries.
