RACINE, Wis. (AP) _ William D. Perez was named Monday to succeed the retiring William D. George Jr. as president and chief executive officer of SC Johnson Wax, manufacturer of home-care and insect-control products.

Perez, 49, a 26-year veteran with the Racine-based company, is to assume the new post when George retires Jan. 1.

George joined the company in 1981 as executive vice president of what now is Johnson Worldwide Associates, a publicly held recreational products company, also based in Racine. He was elected president and CEO and a member of the board in 1993.

Perez joined Johnson Wax in 1970 in consumer product sales.

``(Perez) has made outstanding contributions to our company on a global basis, most recently as president and chief operating officer for worldwide consumer products,'' said Samuel C. Johnson, chairman of S.C. Johnson & Son Inc., in a prepared statement.

Johnson Wax, closely held by the Johnson family and board members, has estimated net sales of $4 billion and about 12,000 employees in 50 countries. Company products are marketed under such brands as Pledge, Windex, Glade, Shout, Edge and Raid.
