GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina P.J. Hairston started Saturday in the Atlantic Coast Conference semifinal against Maryland despite an injury that has his left hand heavily wrapped.
Hairston had been a game-time decision. His middle and ring fingers were bound together with a splint and most of his hand was wrapped in bandages and tape.
He needed eight stitches to close a wound on his left hand in Friday night's quarterfinal win over Florida State.
He injured the webbing between those two fingers with about 4 minutes left when the ball became jammed between them, spilling blood onto the court.
Hairston had 21 points when he left. The Tar Heels are 7-2 since they made him a starter.
