Canton Moves to Keep High School Students Out of Dance Halls

HONG KONG (AP) _ Authorities in the southern Chinese city of Canton have prohibited high school students from entering dance halls, a newspaper reported today.
The independent Ming Pao newspaper said some students in Canton, about 90 miles northwest of Hong Kong, have gone to dance halls during their noon break, upsetting parents and teachers.
One dance hall was told to close Thursday after authorities received a report it continued to allow student dancing that day.
Teachers reported that the dancing led students to neglect their school work and that ''bad people'' lured some into committing crimes.
Some ''dance friends'' have entered the schools to pull their partners from class, disrupting orderly instruction, the report said.
