MONTREAL (AP) _ The Montreal Expos announced on Thursday that six players from the National League club's 40-man major league roster signed one-year contracts.

The Expos signed pitchers Tim Cates, John Dopson and Floyd Youmans and infielders Rene Gonzales, Al Newman and Luis Rivera.

All but Youmans spent last season in the Expos' minor-league system. Youmans was acquired in the five-player deal that sent catcher Gary Carter to the New York Mets in December.

The clubs' spring training camp at West Palm Beach, Fla., opens Feb. 23 for pitchers and catchers, and Feb. 27 for the full squad.
