NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices were lower in early trading on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 44 points in the early going. Losing issues on the New York Stock Exchange held a 7-4 lead over gainers.

The Nasdaq Composite Index was off 60 points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index was down 7 points.

Analysts predict there could be some bargain-hunting on the market.

With the Nasdaq down sharply the past two days, and losing more ground in early trading, some investors might see this as a buying situation.

At the same time, market-watchers expect little overall direction for the market for the next several days.

Many investors are standing by for next week's Federal Reserve meeting, in which the central bank is widely expected to raise interest rates once again to calm the economy.
