Truck Hits Church, Burning It Down and Killing Driver
Mar. 18, 1995
ALLENDALE, Ky. (AP) _ A tanker truck loaded with laquer thinner plowed into a church and burst into flames Friday, killing the driver and destroying the building.
Gene Kautzman was reading his Bible in his pickup truck outside Allendale Baptist Church when he saw the tanker bearing down on him. He said he opened the truck door and ran about 6 or 8 feet through the fire.
``Praise the Lord, it burned my church down but spared my life,'' he said.
The cause of the accident and the driver's identity were not immediately known. The driver worked for Ashland Chemicals of Louisville, said Don Armstrong, a spokesman for the state Division of Disaster and Emergency Services.
The small community of Allendale is about 100 miles south of Louisville.
