Child May Have Been In Car With Death Mother Nearly Two Days
May. 12, 1987
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ Authorities plan to attempt to question a toddler found in a parked car with his slain mother, but doubt he will provide any clues to her death.
Anne Barnes, 32, was found dead Saturday in her car in the University of Kansas Medical Center parking lot. She had been shot several times, Detective Barney Gowin said.
The victim's 19-month-old son Aaron was found asleep on her clothed body in the back seat. Officers believe he may have been in the car with his mother's body for nearly two days. He was unharmed but was admitted to hospital for observation.
''We are going to try talking with him,'' Gowin said. ''I've questioned children before, and getting information from anybody under 2 years old is hard to do. I'm not really optimistic.''
''Right now we have no weapon, no suspect, no motive,'' Gowin said, adding that the precise time of death was not determined.
