FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) _ Veteran safety Perry Phenix was signed Tuesday by the Atlanta Falcons.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Phenix is entering his fifth NFL season. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans out of Southern Mississippi in 1998. He had a team-leading 27 special teams tackles during the Titans' 1999 Super Bowl season.

Phenix spent most of last season with Tennessee, starting 11 games at free safety and finishing with 87 total tackles.

To make room on the roster, the Falcons waived rookie kicker Brian Holmes.
