SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The Oakland Athletics were chosen by 45 percent of California voters asked as the likely winner of the World Series, according to a poll published Friday.

Another 36 percent of the voters think the Los Angeles Dodgers will win the championship, while 8 percent said they didn't care who wins and 11 percent didn't know which team they liked better.

A total of 346 voters were asked about the Series, Thursday's presidential debate and other matters of public interest in a poll conducted by KRC.Communications Research of Cambridge, Mass., for the American Political Network, The San Francisco Examiner newspaper and Oakland-based television station KTVU.

With the presidential election less than a month away, 15 percent of those polled said they care more about the World Series than they do about who the next president will be.

And, although A's support is strongest in Northern California, 23 percent of the voters polled in Los Angeles think Oakland will beat their home team.
